Reviewing 2023 Part 2

Looking back on 2023, the next major event for us was attending and putting together a small display for the Devon County Show. This was our first floral marquee, normally we end up outside and I particularly remember one event where we were almost blown away. Couldn’t put up a pergola as it was too …

Checking after the flooding

Did the inspection rounds as the flooding had prevented me from visiting our Milverton and Clayhanger Sites. We start feeding the birds this time of year, especially when it gets colder and they were waiting for me. The #hostas have all been put to bed over the last week or two, as part of this …

Show year Review 2023

As we come towards the end of 2023 I thought it would be nice to look back on the years show highlights and take stock of what we have achieved this year. Especially as the weather turns darker and colder. The first thing we did was attend the RHS training course held at the beginning …

Clearing Hosta Leafs

Having to clear the #hosta leaves. If I don’t then the mice burrow under the leaves and dig/eat the hosta plants. Lost a Devon Giant this way, there was nothing left.

Hosta Terrarium

I thought I would introduce you to one of the elements on our display at Malvern. This is an enclosed #terrarium based on a Glass teapot with a Miniature #hosta Feather Boa in it. As far as I am aware no one else has done this with a Hosta and this was originally put together …

About This Site

We are a small nursery based in Somerset, although we tend to class ourselves more as a small farm. We have a plot between Milverton and Langford Budville, which was originally a cottage for Farm workers, dating back to the 18th Century last occupied in the 1960s. Unfortunately it has fallen into ruins, but since taking the property over we keep finding remnants from the previous occupiers, including a very old weak Blackcurrant bush, which we hope to revive and make cuttings from to sample the fruit.

As a philosophy we tend towards organic principals where ever possible, and have a range of helpers including our ducks which provide us with assistance in the garden and in protecting our Hostas.
