Busy beginning to the year

Well where to begin. I am sitting here at the end of April and can’t quite believe what we have done and achieved, what still lies ahead. I’ll see if I can give a brief summary of some of the events and why winter never seems long enough.

We created a lovely new terrarium out of a glass teapot for this season, and refreshed the one from last year which we had given a winter and it has come through amazingly well.

We received the micropropagation stock for Dinner Jacket and Blue Mouse Ears. Exciting and scary at the same time.

Busy continuing with propagation of our Small and Mini Hostas

Busy with the willow planting, for both a willow fedge and for growing as crops.

Lots of talks to gardening clubs and associations, meeting loads of people

The Hostas started to open up and I would almost say that they are about 2 weeks earlier than last year. We had a few nervous moments with some very cold weather. Rather than putting fleece over them we put shade netting over them, this tends to create a pocket of warm air whilst if we used the fleece we have found that where it touches the leaves it burns.

The season is fast upon us now, we have already been to some lovely plant fairs and we are now getting ready for Malvern Spring. Lots of exciting experiences to come and hopefully share.
